In the "Parco dei Lagoni di Mercurago" you can pick up chestnuts only in October and November (it is forbidden and there are no chestnuts in the other months!).
In this period you are allowed to collect 2 kilos per person a day.
You are also allowed to leave the standard paths and wander in in the wooden areas to look for chestnuts. Anyway we suggest to avoid walking in the wet lands, near the ponds, for two reasons: first in these areas there are neither chestnuts nor mushrooms as they prefer to grow on knolls and, second, the ground is unstable and you risk to sink in the mud!
The owners of woods and lands inside the park are not subject to any limitation in regard to the collection of what grows in theirs properties.
The laws that regulate the collection of the products of the underbrush are the Regional Law n.29 of 1984 (for the chestnuts) and National Law n. 352 of 1993 (for the mushrooms).
Your dog
Your dog is welcome in the park, but remember that is mandatory to leash it.
Even if it is very quiet and always follows your orders, however every dog is a predator and its smelling and running around alarm and disturb the "forest owners": the wild animals.
The smell of your dog is enough to scare away the small animals of the woods, imagin what would happend if it starts running after them!!
Moreover your dog is healty and vaccinated against diseases but, even so, it can transmit diseases to wild animals. (It could also, even if we hope not so, get something from the "wild" like ticks and fleas).
