What is the naturalistic plan

The naturalistic plan is the natural environment research and management instrument. In the plan there are all the research and check interventions concerning with the Park biocenosis.

Naturalistic features of the Lagoni Park

The Park area is particularly interesting from a geo-morphologic point of view as it preserves and shows with great evidence the landscape modelled by the action of the Quaternary glaciations.
The east and west limits of the Park are represented by two main moraine hills, orientated in a NE/SW direction. Between these two moraine hills the fusion waters of the ancient glacier released alluvial and glacial debris which gave shape to small flat areas, characterised by the presence of humid zones. The ponds developed in these positions have been connected by a canal water system.

The naturalistic importance of the Park is also represented by the fact that up to now the Lagoni haven't been damaged by artificial pollution and eutrophication, preserving all the original features of a oligotrophic and strongly acid lacustrine environment. This allows, at low altitude, the survival of microthermal plant and animal (insects) species.

Part of the present forest vegetation, despite the great alteration due to man activity, still reflects the original climatic oak wood. Here, as a consequence of strong precipitation, Quercus robur partially replaces Quercus patraea

mushrooms in autumn. Foto F. D'Amato The degradations phases of the moorland type underline the suboceanic climate features of this zone. Silvestre pine and birch are secondary species which tend to take back to the climate oak wood equilibrium the degradation forms of the forest vegetation.

Avifauna, particularly studied by the Park institution through the scientific ringing, is rich of nemoral species. Recently a new study object is represented by the chiroptera living near the Lago Maggiore. (We are completely aware that this point of view favours some aspects to the detriment of others but we are working to the best of our abilities!)

The water entomofauna belonging to the Hydroadephaga is also very interesting.

Visitors interested in deepening some particular aspects can find several naturalistic publications (someone free and some others in sale) by all the Park offices (e.g. Chiroptera, forest management, ornithology). It is also possible to consult the Parks board thematic library.
